New Pod in Edzell brings health boost
Patients at Edzell Health Centre are set to benefit from a new ‘Health Pod’ going live this week, which will make routine assessments faster and more convenient.
The brand new Pod enables patients to measure their own weight and blood pressure, and complete a number of assessments, including new patient assessments, contraceptive and epilepsy reviews, and anxiety and depression assessments, all at a time and pace that suits them - no appointment necessary.
The results of the assessments are then automatically uploaded to the patient’s records - ensuring that the practice GPs have all the information they need to review a patient’s ongoing health needs.
Dr Tine Iterbeke said: “At Edzell Health Centre we are always striving to provide the best and most efficient service to our patients.
“While the majority of appointments will still involve patients seeing a GP in person, there are some circumstances where a face to face consultation just isn’t necessary.
“Where patients are completing routine monitoring of long term conditions, or carrying out standard assessments for repeat prescriptions, the Pod provides a fast and fuss free alternative to scheduling a GP appointment.
“Those patients can now simply turn up at the Health Centre at any time during our open hours and complete their check up at the Pod, eliminating the need to sit and wait for an appointment.
“This extra information, which will then appear in the patient's record, will focus and inform the conversation during future consultations.”
The Pod, which consists of a touch screen computer, blood pressure monitor and weighing scales, can be found in the Health Centre reception, positioned behind a screen for privacy.
It was paid for by donations from the local community group ‘Friends of Edzell Health Centre’.
The staff at Edzell Health Centre want to thank The Friends of Edzell Health Centre, and the many patients whose donations have made it possible to purchase other equipment for the benefit of all patients, like a specially adapted chair for people with mobility issues, a wheel chair, blood pressure monitors, and a defibrillator.
Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription.
Partners in Care
Once registered, patients and healthcare professionals work together to ensure the most appropriate care is provided. This partnership philosophy extends even further and our active patient group exists to make sure that patient needs and the practice offering are always heading in the same direction.
The health centre is situated on one level and has easy access for the disabled. There are no steps for wheelchair users to negotiate, inside or outside the building.
Patient Participation Group
What is a PPG?
The Patient Participation Group (PPG) is a small group of patients who meet to give their views on a range of subjects which are of direct interest to patients. The aim is to become more informed and to improve the service provided by the Health Centre, by having a means of communication with Health Centre staff.
Who can be a member?
Anyone who is a registered patient of Edzell Health Centre can volunteer to become a member. We are currently looking for new members. There are 4 meetings per year, in March, June, September and December. Meetings are usually at 7pm and last for a maximum of one and a half hours.
How can you become involved?
Contact details for the PPG can be found on the PPG section of this webiste.
